Rhiannon is a trained play therapist and registered clinical counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). She completed her Masters of Arts degree at the Adler University and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University.
Rhiannon has worked in the field of providing therapeutic services to children, families and adults for over 20 years. For the past four years, she has travelled to many countries and volunteered therapeutically with children facing various challenges in their lives including extensive work in orphanages with children affected by HIV and loss of family members. Additionally, she has extensive experience in both creation and delivery of psychoeducational groups, and is looking forward to offering these sessions as part of her work at the Strawberries & Sunshine Healing Centre.
Rhiannon approaches her therapeutic work from an attachment perspective and utilizes modalities of therapy including Play Therapy, Parent–child interaction therapy, Cognitive Behavioural, Trauma Focused and Adlerian Therapy. Her work includes both directed and non-directive therapeutic services with the child client as well as ongoing support to the caregivers.
Through the use of this approach, she helps the child to explore and resolve problems through the therapeutic use of play. These include: anxiety, worries, outbursts, physical and verbal aggression, separation anxiety, social isolation, attention and hyperactivity, loss and the grief associated with it, exposure to domestic violence, traumas, as well as strengthening family bonds for better relationships.
Rhiannon is looking forward to working with you and finding ways to help support you and your child. She is available for individual adult, child and family based sessions. She is available for a free 15 minute information session where you can discuss what the therapy will look like for you and your child.
